Video shows apparent ballot harvesting in PA
Amistad Project Director Phill Kline comments on mounting evidence of lawlessness in 2020 election
Amherst, Virginia/March 21, 2022 — Phill Kline, director of The Amistad Project, issued the following statement in response to the release of video footage that appears to show a woman placing a large stack of ballots in a drop box in Montgomery County, Pennsylvania.
“This is not the first video we’ve seen showing this type of activity. In many states, including Pennsylvania, it is illegal to submit ballots for other people. It’s called ballot harvesting, and it’s against the law because it compromises chain of custody and creates potential for voter intimidation and coercion.
“The activity in the video clearly appears to be illegal, yet judgment should be reserved until the person in the video is interviewed and further information gathered. Additionally, if the video had been viewed near the election, the questionable ballots could have been flagged and investigated. This now cannot be done, as the ability to segregate the ballots has been lost.
“This illustrates the dramatic harm to the public’s faith in the elections as most election officials have not reviewed such video and in many instances removed observers from the process, preventing oversight and transparency.
“It's possible the woman in the video believes she has a valid explanation for her actions. Unfortunately, public officials have gone through only a small fraction of the video surveillance footage from drop boxes around the country. There are undoubtedly many more examples of this type of behavior, which we’ve already seen many times in multiple states.
“We need transparency from our public officials, especially those responsible for proliferating these drop boxes. They need to review all the footage and release it to the public so we can see exactly what takes place at drop boxes all over the country and cease fighting legislatures and others seeking to understand what happens in our elections.
“The only thing certain about the 2020 election is that election officials in many jurisdictions violated laws and procedures, refused bipartisan participation in managing the election, and broke promises and laws designed to make the election transparent, inclusive, and accountable. Those failings still have not been properly addressed, putting the fairness of future elections in jeopardy.”
